Queens Diptych

New York, 2009

The lure to just walk around with a small camera in hand is quite strong in me. I often wish I had a great project going on and a place to go photograph, but right now I'm too busy with the weddings and family photography, as well as taking care of my own family. So sometimes I just pick an area or street or neighborhood and just walk around taking a few pictures for a few hours.

I have been exploring some parts of Queens - here is a diptych of two scenes from Queens - on the left The Triboro bridge (now RFK bridge) seen from Astoria Park, and on the right, a view of a Con Ed plant from a park (I don't know the name) in the Queensbridge neighborhood, right in the shadow of the Queensboro/59th Street bridge.

I didn't shoot them to make a diptych, but they really seem to complement each other, with the bridge hidden behind the foliage and the plant towers peeking above the trees.

Enjoy.

Rainy Tree Photo

New York, 2009

Took a quick picture of this tree though a rainy car window with the iPhone while waiting for one kid to get out of school as the other one sat in the back seat sleeping.

Jennifer and Tony Engagement Photos

New York, 2009

It's great exploring places in New York that you have never been to before. An engagement session recently took me to the Chinese Scholar's Garden at Snug Harbor on Staten Island. Jennifer and Tony were very playful and we had a really good session. The Garden is small and tucked away - a little hard to get to from Manhattan - but totally worth it. I'd like to spend a few hours just taking pictures there.

Fun couple in N.J.

New Jersey, 2009

OK, so I'm often saying how much fun I am having with a couple at their wedding, well these guys we're above and beyond the norm. Wendy and Steve gave off so much positive energy and really brought that into the photos during the day. The "Charlie's Angels" poses in the ladies room were a riot and though their idea seemed a little strange at the time - I really like the portrait in the golf course sand trap with their eyes closed. I do also have to say that while I didn't think about it during the day, when I was editing the photos, I thought that Steve looks a little like a young Christopher Walken!

Family Pictures

New Jersey, 2009

Spent a lovely few hours with my friend Jennifer and her family making portraits and pictures of her kids this past Sunday. We had great weather and were able to be outside for most of the shoot. A great day for photography and for being with friends and being outdoors.

Swen and Lisanne Wedding Day Portraits III

NYC, 2009

The final group of three pictures/portraits from my day with Swen and Lisanne. These are probably my favorites. Shot with shallow depth of field I really like the mood and the B&W. Here - pictures from the West Village and Central Park.

Swen and Lisanne Wedding Day Portraits II

NYC, 2009

A few more portraits/pictures from my day with Swen and Lisanne. Here - pictures from Times Square, The High Line and Soho. In a way the wedding day pictures ended up being a bit like an engagement session! I had so much fun hanging out and cruising around NYC with the happy couple on their wedding day.

Swen and Lisanne Wedding Day Portraits I

NYC, 2009

A very different wedding day: I spent about 4 hours with Swen and Lisanne hanging about NYC and taking fun photos prior to a very short ceremony at the Conservatory Garden in Central Park. Here are a few samples of the portraits. In this group a few from the west village.

Christina and Mark: Bride getting ready

New York, 2009

I enjoy when there is a lot of activity while the bride is getting ready. It gives me the chance to make some nice compositions. Having her alone for a pensive moment isn't bad either!

Christina and Mark: Just Married

New York, 2009

It's fun to see the just married couple having so much fun. Christina and Mark were great to be with - they had so much energy and really enjoyed the party. I love the "coming up the aisle" picture as well as the bride laughing at the table.
