The positive vibes and laughter at this wedding were really great. Everyone was having tons of fun.

I hope you enjoy the pix!!!

Suzanne and Patrick in Black and White

Brooklyn, NY, June 2009

For this Brooklyn wedding (Bay Ridge!) I switched the Canon 5D to monochrome mode and took a bunch of pictures. I really like the results. It was a fun, loose way to shoot and I was able to push the ISO to the top as well. The files just needed a little punch up in toning but looked great out of the camera. Ah the joy of black and white!

May Wedding - Favorites

New York City, May, 2009

These 2 are among my favorites. The B&W walking away really rocks. A great mood and feeling I think. And the second, the color portrait, late in the evening - well I pre-planned this and worked on getting the lights of the bridge to go nicely soft in the background. (Great lens - the Canon 50mm F1.2!)

May Wedding - Party

NYC, May, 2009

I love these two from the party. A great dancing shot if I say so myself, all the lights and motion and great energy. And I love the real feeling in this shot of the best man hugging the bride.

May Wedding - Portraits

New York City, May, 2009

Hi - it's been a while but here are some fab pix of Mike & Earn's wedding in May right here in the city. We did portraits in C.P. and some at Astra the restaurant on 59th Street.

I Loved, I Lost, I Made Spaghetti

New York, 2009

My friend Giulia Melucci recently published her first book "I Loved, I Lost, I Made Spaghetti" and it's been getting great reviews. It's a very funny read and has a ton of great recipes too. So go buy it!

I took her author portrait for the book jacket and just photographed her book party.

Chicago Wedding - Moments

Chicago, 2009

These are a few of my favorite moments from the wedding. I love the B&W shot of Heather and Johnny in Tiny Lounge. The mood is great. (Shot with the Canon 135mm F2 lens shot wide open at 1/8 second at 1600 iso on the 5D camera.) My other top one is the one of them walking down the street with Johnny's dad - feels like a film still to me.

Chicago Wedding - Ceremony

Chicago, 2009

The ceremony was lit by 2 big windows and the light on the couples' faces was really great. The windows did make shooting from the back of the room a bit of a challenge bit with a little flash it came of well. The vows and the rings pictures from the back of the room turned out nicely with some of the natural light cutting across the couples. I like the light and their movement coming back up the aisle!

Chicago Wedding - Details

Chicago, 2009

A few of the details. My favorite is the cake shot. I've been using a Canon 50mm 1.2 lens for a lot of the details and it's shallow depth of field makes for a great image. It's a fun way to pace out the day with the details - going through to the cake at the end of the night. On the cake I used a little flash to get the flowers the right color but blurred out the lights coming in the bar window where the party was going on.

Chicago Wedding - Portraits

Chicago, 2009

I was in Chicago for a really fun wedding. I was a little nervous that the weather was going to be really poor - but it was a beautiful day - around 60 degrees. It almost felt hot! The day went really well. I photographed for about 12 hours. Here are a couple of the portraits. Johnny works at Tiny Lounge and this is where he first met Heather - so we did a few pictures there - including them sharing a chocolate martini! More to come....

New York Weddings

© 2009 New York Magazine

I'm very excited to report that I was just listed in the new special Summer issue of New York Magazine, the New York Weddings issue that is now on newsstands. The issue is a great resource and this time around they published two different covers.

Here's what they had to say about me:

"Experienced as a documentary and street photographer, Elderfield has a talent for capturing the decisive moments--from the first kiss to the last dance. He discreetly follows the couple throughout their day, preferring a simple, straightforward approach to shooting--working primarily in color, using digital cameras."

The listing in not live on their site yet but it should be soon. It's great to be featured by the magazine and they also list me as a Good Value!
